OHelpful information for obtaining a marriage license.

START EARLY - If you are getting married within the next 30-90 days, it's imperative you log onto a County Clerk Recorder's Office website to get the latest updates on obtaining your marriage license.   

IMPORTANT:  Know that you are NOT required to obtain a marriage license from the county in which you live, BUT both parties must be present to submit your application, show government issued valid identification and sign the license application in front of the County Clerk representative.  

There are two types of marriage licenses:  Confidential and Public.  The confidential keeps your marriage license from public eye except as requested by court order.  The public is self-explanatory.  Your license includes your address as well as those of your parents.  You'll need to note on the application which one you prefer.  The public license requires an officiant's signature as well as a witness signature.  There is no space for a witness signature on the Confidential license.

If you are NOT a U.S. Citizen but wish to be married here in the Bay Area/United States, your home country may require an Apostille.  I have obtained that document for former clients and would be happy to explain the process over the phone, email or text.
